March, 2009 Archives

Tonight, I have three judges! Yes, these three are very important people in their own right.

The first guest judge is my sister who was supposed to invite me over for dinner and must’ve forgotten.

And the next two people are married to each other. Andrew and Amy Padgett are also here to help me out. (I’ll be in Texas this weekend so I’ll get to see them for the first time in a few years.)

And I’m going to need a lot of help. For some reason tonight, I’m far more tired than I have any right to be. But I am. Hopefully they can pick up the slack for me.

The Hot List (based on last week’s performances)

1. Adam Lambert – He showed me for putting him in the number 2 spot. I was wrong.
2. Danny Gokey – He’s a solid second place, but also probably a distant one.
3. Allison Iraheta – She was probably the second best performer last week.
4. Lil Rounds – Even though I liked her, it seems that she disappointed some folks.
5. Matt Giraud – He’s slowly climbing up the list.
6. Kris Allen – He’s shorter than Ryan! Is that possible?
7. Anoop Desai – I think he’s starting to gain some fans here.
8. Megan Joy – It’s very hard for me to be an unbiased judge here.
9. Scott MacIntyre – I like Scott, you like Scott, but he’s just not as impressive as some of the other contestants.

I asked those who read this blog who they thought was the speaker of the following quote.

You should pray for a sound mind, and a fine booty.

The responses are below.

Priscilla said, “Tik!” No, she didn’t say that. She said, “Beyonce?”

Nadine, who was my guest judge on the American Idol blog this week said, “Oprah.”

HJ said, “Kim Kardashian? how ever u spell it.” HJ used her texting language for that one.

Tawni said, “I was going to say Beyonce too.”

Nichi said, “Uummm, I’m going with who ever Nadine is, and I’m going to say Oprah.” I just told you, she was on the American Idol blog.

Amy said, “Every once in a while Oprah says something brilliant. I’m not sure that this is one of those times.” Interesting. I thought it was brilliant and real. Oprah can buy anyone, and she’s still worried about how her backside looks.

Whoops, I think I just gave it away.

Miko said, “Tyra Banks.”

Well, it is Oprah who was the speaker and sayer of the quote. Nice job to Nadine, Nichi, and Amy.

Don’t be talkin’ about Oprah’s booty.

I don’t even have an intro, so I gave you this photo. Let’s get to the show.

- Tyra is already back at school and she’s very much worried that she missed so much school that she won’t get into college.

Which female celebrity said this great quote?

You should pray for a sound mind, and a fine booty.

I’m not sure how easy this is or not, but I saw it today and had to share it with you. And I very much agree with the sentiment.

Leave your guesses in the comment section and I’ll share the answer on Monday.

And remember, no googling!

It happens every year. Someone gets eliminated early and the blogs cry out that it was “too soon”. Was it all that surprising to see Alexis go last week? Eh, not to me. I say this every year. The only time it’s surprising to me is when someone who actually has a chance to win goes home early. She was a nice little singer with a nice story, but she wasn’t going to win the contest. If Allison or Lil Rounds gets eliminated this week, then you’re talking upset.

Joining me tonight is someone I’ve only known for a few years and didn’t even know she was a huge American Idol fan until just recently. I left a note on Facebook asking if anyone wanted to join the blog and she responded. I met her and her sister Veronica at some Landmark classes we were taking.

We’ll see if she’s as mean as Simon.

The Hot List (based on last week’s performances)

1. Danny Gokey – Adam can’t be number one any longer. I can’t stand him. It’s Danny’s turn.
2. Adam Lambert – I wonder what Motown song he’s going to put black nail polish on tonight.
3. Lil Rounds – Lil Rounds is about to clean up tonight.
4. Allison Iraheta – Even though she’s a bit immature, her voice isn’t.
5. Matt Giraud – Tonight should be right up his alley.
6. Kris Allen – You can’t discount likability. He has it.
7. Megan Joy – I don’t get her voice, but she’s definitely got the look.
8. Anoop Desai – It was a John Elway-like comeback for Anoop last week. I thought he was a goner.
9. Scott MacIntyre – I’ve dropped him far down because I think everyone is improving and he’s slipping.
10. Michael Sarver – Should’ve been out after last week

For the third year in a row, I’m putting together a team for Pat’s Run.

Pat’s Run is an event put on by Pat Tillman’s friends and family for The Pat Tillman Foundation.

It’s a unique event in that it’s a 4.2 mile walk/run and it ends on the 42 yard line at Leland High School. Pat’s high school number was 42.

I know that 4.2 miles can sound a little intimidating, but it’s really not. I’m not a runner and it hasn’t been hard at all. And you don’t even have to run. You can walk as well.

The cost is $35 to join the event and you get a commemorative t-shirt. Both shirts I’ve received have been great for working out and I wear them today.

The race is on April 25th at 8AM. Please make sure you choose the San Jose one and not the Tempe, Arizona one.

If you have kids 12 and under, they can race for free on their own .42 mile run around the track. There is a $1 processing fee.

If you want to join Team Yeah~!, go here: http://www.active.com/page/Event_Details.htm?event_id=1655332&assetId=f7775b5b-6514-402d-b402-2b395bdea63e

In this episode of GG Radio, I interview my sister Tawni and we go over stories of our youth. The silence you’ll hear is because she’s laughing so hard remembering the things I bring up.

Right click to download.

Even though I was completely dissatisfied with the way they wrote Jason Street out of the show, I really like the third season. Let’s hope that we see another season. Shows like this deserve to go on.

- Riggins comes home and his truck is trashed. He yells at his brother who is on the couch in his underwear and his excuse is that his fiance stripper dumped him. For some reason, this is excuse enough for Tim to not be angry that his truck is trashed.

- Mrs. Taylor tells her family that she doesn’t want to have a birthday because she feels old. That’s TV language for saying they’re going to throw her a huge birthday party.

- Buddy interrupts practice (as well as Matt getting hit several times going over the middle at his new receiver position) to tell the team that they’re going to be on national TV this week. I have a feeling our young QB is going to be plenty nervous.

- The school is looking for Tyra. They need to pick a theme for the winter formal.

About three and a half years ago, I told a story about my cousin Mick and his lost chance at love. I have a new story about my cousin Mick and a new chance at love.

But I wanted to quickly summarize his old story so that the new readers are caught up on Mick. I wrote it and even I didn’t remember all the details.

(All the headers are clickable if you want to read the full stories.)

Part One
I go to my cousin Mick’s salon every three weeks or so. He’s been cutting my hair since I was 17 and we’ve always had a pretty good relationship. The story begins with him telling me about a woman who caught his eye.

During Mick’s break exactly one week ago, he saw someone that caught his eye. According to him, it wasn’t necessarily her beauty that caught his eye. It was a moment. A small moment in time that made his knees slightly weak. He glanced over at the young woman who made eye contact with him. Rather than immediately look away for fear of being caught looking at this woman, he let his eyes stay with hers. He then saw a smile and then her eyes fluttered. And like every passionate and sensitive man, his heart melted.

“Ok, then what did you do?” I asked.

“The only thing I could’ve done,” he said, “I had to go back to work.”

After losing two last week, we’re down to eleven singers left. Anoop got a mulligan, but another screw up and people are not going to be as patient with him. That performance last week was terrible.

We said goodbye to Jorge and Jasmine last week. Who will we say goodbye to tomorrow?

Before I get to the first hot list of the year, I want to introduce my guest hosts, George and Joan. I’ve known George since my Epinions days and today, we work together on SonicClash alongside Money Mike. Joan is his lovely wife and they’re both big Idol watchers.

I can’t stand Adam. I really can’t. He wears more makeup than any girlfriend I’ve ever had. And he has a creepy punk rocker look. However, he’s also the best entertainer on the show this year, and one of the best they’ve ever had. I can’t overlook his talent. I just hope he loses.

The Hot List (based on last week’s performances)

1. Adam Lambert – Let’s see if he gets away with screaming this week.
2. Danny Gokey – Take a drunk Robert Downey Jr. and add some Elliot Yamin, and you have Gokey.
3. Lil Rounds – I know most would put Allison here, but I have to stick up for my R&B people.
4. Allison Iraheta – She’s the new sleeper.
5. Matt Giraud – Again, this is another favorite of mine because of genre.
6. Scott MacIntyre – He’s definitely a fan favorite.
7. Alexis Grace – Is she really that naughty?
8. Kris Allen – Take away the guitar gimmick and I think he’s way plain.
9. Megan Joy – She’s very cute (or H-O-T), but after last week, that’s all she has going for her.
10. Michael Sarver – I know I’m going to get hate here, but I haven’t liked him since day one.
11. Anoop Desai – It’s his prerogative.
